Exam Pattern for GDS to Postman Exam
A single session of two and a half hours (150 minutes) will be used for Papers I, II, and III. A separate administration of Paper-IV, the Data Entry Skill Test (DEST), will take place later.
If a candidate qualifies for both Paper III and Paper IV, the selection of candidates will be based on their performance in Papers I and II (where applicable).
The purpose of Papers III (Language Knowledge) and IV (Qualifying) is to qualify candidates.
Performance in both Paper I and Paper II (combined, i.e., total of marks gained in Paper I and Paper II) will be taken into consideration for selection to the postings of Postman / Mail Guard, whereas performance in Paper I only will be taken into consideration for the position of MTS.
A merit list for MTS selection will be created from the applicants who receive the minimum qualifying marks in both Paper-I and Paper-III independently.
On the other hand, the merit list will only be created using the grades earned in Paper I. There should be an equal number of candidates deemed successful for each category of openings following the candidates’ order of merit.
Candidates will be able to appear in Paper-IV (DEST) if they receive the minimum qualifying marks in both Paper-I and Paper-II (combined, i.e., the sum of the marks obtained in Paper-I and Paper-II) and in Paper-III individually.
Five times the number of Postman positions open will be the number of candidates shortlisted for DEST.
Any candidate who meets the basic requirements in DEST will have the opportunity to be added to the merit list and perhaps be chosen for the position of mail guard or postman.
However, the overall marks earned in Papers I and II will be the only factor taken into consideration when creating the merit list.
There should be an equal number of candidates deemed successful for each category of openings following the candidates’ order of merit.
If an open position in a category is not filled owing to the chosen applicant’s refusal to accept the offer, the following applicant on the merit list will be considered for the position.
Still, no queue or approved panel will be kept; the appointment of such a candidate will only take place if they decline an appointment offer or are refused a promotion.
